Our quest to acquire sustainable, rare honey varietals has introduced us to the delightful acacia honey, sourced directly from Colombia. After initiating a reforestation project in Meta, Colombia, Javier Mauricio Gantiva quickly recognized the presence of honeybees feasting on the acacia woodlands which led him down the path of becoming a bee-keeper.
Apicola Campo Verde have since expanded to over 500 hives, while employing seasonal beekeepers displaced due to guerrilla activities, and creating a refuge for various animal species including cayman, capybara, giant armadillos, and endangered leopards.
You may experience the magic of Colombian Acacia at Thistlerock’s Honey Library and in special limited release meads which support biodiversity protection and habitat conservation.
